Fall Festival a Big Success!!!

Thanks to all our volunteers, PTA parents, middle and high school students, and our students for making our Joyner Jamboree a big success. We sold over 400 arm bands for children to participate in all the activities and our Latin Dancers were top notch. Thanks for making this such a great night!

Fall Festival Parking

I had a little trouble with my parking video, so I will leave you information in the Written form.

1. Parking is at a Premium
2. Please do not park in the Apartment Parking Lot
3. Please do not block driveways.
4. The best place to park is above the school up on Yancey Street where the new construction is going on.
5. Lock your car/Secure your valuables.
6. It is a good idea to bring a flashlight, so that you can see your way back to your car.

Rain or shine we will have a good time!!!

Heifer Project

Dear Friends,

Thanks for all the support for our Heifer International Project. We have raised over $400 and have also sent a goat to Nepal to go with our Water Buffalo. You and your children have made a real difference in our world!

What Do You Get a Man Who Has Everything for His Birthday???

A Water Buffalo!!!!!!!

Mr. Knott's Birthday is coming up soon and he wants you to help him buy a Water Buffalo for a village in Asia.

We will be collecting change (so clean out your couches!) Monday, Oct. 5th through Friday, Oct. 16th in the lobby for Heifer International http://www.heifer.org/ , an organization that helps impoverished families worldwide become more self-reliant through the gift of livestock and training in their care. Our goal is to raise $250 to fund the cost of one water buffalo.

Big Things happening in 3rd Grade!!!

Our Third Graders have begun studying communities and in conjunction with this study, they will be studying a community in Belize where Ms. Scheffel lived and taught school. Ms. Scheffel told the students a lot about her community in Belize and our students will be studying their community and the community in Belize. Students brainstormed ways we could help schools in Belize and will soon be taking action to develop projects for sharing. We are hoping to write, email, and maybe even skype with Ms. Scheffel's school in Belize to learn about their community.

What's Happening on Wake Wednesdays???

Dear Friends,

I wanted to give you a brief idea of "What's Happening on Wake Wednesdays."

Our PLC Teams are working hard to develop quality lessons and assessments for our students. While each grade level has a slightly different focus, the main emphasis is developing lessons that will help all students achieve at their highest potential.

Next Wednesday (Sept. 23rd), our 12:30 early release date, Kathryn Vaughn, with Promethean will be doing a 3 hour workshop on using Promethean electronic response devices to assess student progress.

Welcome Our New Part-Time Spanish Teacher

My name is Amy Gourley, and I am so excited to be re-joining the Joyner Spanish Team! Five years ago I taught Spanish at Joyner, and it is a delight to be back. I have long loved the Spanish language, and I find it so rewarding to share with children. I graduated from Wittenberg University with a major in Spanish and spent a year studying at a Chilean university as well. Since that time I have taught in a variety of settings including high school, elementary school, and even summer camp! A native of Pennsylvania, Raleigh has been my home for the past 10 years along with my husband, Mike. During the last five years our family has grown to include two daughters, Stella and Anna. I look forward to getting to know you and your child throughout the school year as s/he grows in her/his knowledge and love of Spanish.

Please join me in welcoming Amy to our Joyner Family! Amy will be teaching Spanish to grades Pre-K, K, 2nd and 3rd.
